NanoDefine demonstrated applicability of developed methods to industry!
As a follow-up of the first NanoDefine industry-focused workshop in 2016, a second one was arranged in the final year of the project on 24 October at DECHEMA Frankfurt, together with the German VCI. Main purpose of this event was the practical demonstration of key measurement techniques developed to industrial end-users, regulatory bodies, enforcement labs and to the wider community. This final NanoDefine dissemination event has attracted about 80 representatives from all over Europe (including one participant from Japan!) and from a wide variety of stakeholders, including material manufacturers, especially from the paint, pigment and fillers industry.
Final NanoDefine Outreach Event: project successfully completed and outcome presented!
NanoDefine is approaching the end of the project (31 October 2017). By assessing a wide spectrum of test materials from more simple monotype to complex poly-disperse matrices with different shapes, structures and compositions, including real-world materials, such as industrial or consumer products, the performance of existing key measurement techniques (MTs) was critically evaluated, improved and further developed, and validated.

On 20 June 2017, the day before the ENF2017, experts of the NanoDefine team were actively contributing to the 2nd CEN Open Meeting “European Conference on Standardization for Nanotechnologies and Nanomaterials” held also in Valletta, Malta (http://international-events.afnor.org/nanotechnologies_openmeeting_2017/), and organized by CEN/TC 352 “Nanotechnologies” in cooperation with CEN-CENELEC Management Centre, the EU Commission and EFTA.

Here comes the 2nd NanoDefine Bulletin highlighting the most recent results produced by the project since spring 2016 and their practical potential for end-users, such as material and instrument manufacturers, to match the analytical challenges triggered by the EC Recommendation for a Nano-definition (2011/696/EU). Main objective of the EU FP7 NanoDefine project is to develop a methodology and measurement strategy to support practitioners in industries, regulatory bodies and enforcement laboratories to reliably implement the EC Nano-definition.

The concept of the European FP7 project NanoDefine is: Development of an integrated approach based on validated and standardized methods to support the implementation of the EC recommendation of the for a definition of nanomaterial. The major outcome of the project is the establishment of an integrated tiered approach based on validated rapid screening methods (tier 1) and validated confirmatory methods (tier 2). With the developed NanoDefiner eTool and user manual, end-users will be guided to implement the developed methodology.
